Life After Work

White House Black Market Dress

Well, it's been 21 weeks since I lost my job. It's been weird not having a job to go to each day and in a way I've missed it very much. In another way, not at all....although I believe that has more to do with it being my favorite time of the year rather than not wanting to work. I guess knowing I will have to go back to work soon makes me not want to but I'm not sure that I would want to be retired and continue on without a job at all. The days begin to run together for me too much after awhile. It has been many, many years since I have had a summer off so I haven't dug my heels into the job search yet but last week I began sending my resume to places I would really like to work rather than the required two for unemployment. Places I would really like to work and hopefully have a chance of getting hired. Although I did have one interview I haven't had any nibbles yet but with any luck maybe soon.  It's time to go back to work.

I have made the most of my time off mostly by working around the house, helping my mom get some things done around her place and just relaxing watching the creek behind my house roll by. A few concerts and nights out with friends and spending a bit of time with family. There are plenty of other things I could be doing but have changed my mind as time has passed. I wanted to paint the inside of my house but it doesn't look like that is going to come to be. Although I have gotten the house cleaned up pretty good and newly organized. I helped my son paint some on his house he bought earlier in the year and I just can't seem to get in the mood to do mine. Oh well, it's not like it needs it that much anyway. I would love a little color but with the price of paint and the time and effort involved it's just not happening. I also had planned to transfer all of my photos to one place and organize them. Well, that's just not happening either. Way too much data usage. Maybe someday I'll get those things done.

I have purposely stayed away from the computer as much as possible, social media, reading or watching any news, or listening to any new music. I have grown a fondness for Classic Vinyl on Sirius Radio though. It's like going back in time for sure. I figure I can get back to online stuff and reality when I am on the computer more. I must say I have enjoyed spending quiet time at home. It's been a great summer!

There's one thing I have been working on which has actually caused me to wipe the dust off my laptop, and that is reopening my Etsy store to showcase the hats I make. I learned how to make the Russian panama hat which is so pretty. The pattern was going around the web but since I can't speak Russian I couldn't read it so I figured one out on my own. They are so pretty! You can click on the logo if you want to see what I've done so far.

I hope to get back in the swing of things with life getting back to normal soon enough but for now I'm just sitting here watching the world go round and round and that's fine by me :)

I Have Officially Retired My Ugg Boots For The Season

UGG.com
My Ugg boots are probably my favorite shoewear. I love them! My feet have a tendency to get cold but not while wearing these. I have read that men don't like them but I think they are cute as can be and my hubby doesn't complain. Yes, I even like them with shorts. Although I only wear them with jeans. With the sun finally coming out, sadly it's time to place them at the back of my closet.
Top: ModCloth Jeans: Levi's 515
The top I have on is the most softest thing I own and was purchased at my favorite internet clothing shop...ModCloth. It is the The-Great-Estate-Dress and is currently sold out. They have some really cool, unique items. This was listed as a dress but was a bit short for me since you can see through the bottom layer. I pulled it up a bit and it was perfect as a top with my Levis. It would be cute with leggings or a short skirt and tights too.  I'm still trying to get out of my Levis and into some more stylish outfits but I love them so. Still …

Testing out the new Blogger App

After breaking my wrist last year I took a breather from social media and computer work (other than my job) but with the new internet  security rules and losing content I feel it’s time to revamp my sites. I just got a new iPhone 8 Plus and I am hoping to be able to post using the new Blogger App. Wish me luck on that one!
As it turns out so far so good.

The Cabbage Patch Kids inspired crochet hat

I just love Cabbage Patch Kids! Years ago my dad went on a mission to get me one when they were hard to find. With the invent of the internet you can almost find anything these days but back in the day it wasn't so easy. He finally succeeded but there was always a story about what a time he had. He was able to get me two in the long run. The first a little boy named Bobby George (my dad's name was Bobby also) just in case he couldn't get his hands on a girl with red hair. Luckily eventually someone was able to get the girl doll for him to give to me. I was so pleased to get them and he was so happy giving them to me that it is a memory I will always treasure. Whenever I think of Cabbage Patch dolls I always think of him. I get them out once in awhile and clean them up but I hope to display them after I paint my second bedroom which I hope to make whimsical and colorful. Arlene looked like she could use a bit of sprucing up when I got her out for pictures so I'm not su…

Blog Links

With the new security browser rules and Modcloth changing affiliates you may find some of my links are not connecting. I have been slowly removing code and trying my best to make sure the links work although I am sure I will not be able to locate everything which is broken but I'll go with a for sure, almost, maybe 😎 I'll keep working on it and I apologize if anyone comes across a broken link. It's been fun going through some old posts. I'm enjoying getting back in the swing of things!

Music Monday - Kid Rock (Sweet Southern Sugar)

Kid Rock’s latest release Sweet Southern Sugar hit airwaves Friday, November 3. I anxiously awaited my postman on Saturday since I had preordered the CD. He didn't let me down and it arrived about noon.  Since I didn't have anything going on I popped it in and turned it up. I loved it from start to finish and didn't feel the urge to skip over any of the songs. That's what I call a great album! On the last few albums there's been at least one that I skip over and with the name of the new album I thought maybe he might slip completely over that sugar mountain. Luckily for me, most of the tracks are rockin' rock 'n roll which I love. Not much of a country fan so I was tickled! Now with a week of listening under my belt I'd have to say this is by far one of his best albums.

I had already heard the first three songs and saw the videos for those. Greatest Show on Earth is a strong start with a pounding beat. The video is lots of footage from previous concer…

Just a girl and a goose

So in doing a little blog cleaning I came across a few draft posts with no content whatsoever except for this one. Just one lonely picture of me and this goose having a stare off. Why? I have no idea. When? I have no idea. Where? I have no idea. Who took the photo? I have no idea. Fun times? I'm sure! I must have been leaving the bar 😉

Dreaming of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Ok, so last night I had a dream that I was standing on the roof watching the Red Hot Chili Peppers play "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" and I was featured in the video. I was looking great in a cute outfit with some type of hat and having a ball! lol The next thing I know I'm running through the jungle looking worse for wear with a dinosaur chasing me.  We watched an episode of Terra Nova and then Jurassic Park III was on so I know why I was dreaming of dinosaurs but where did the Red Hot Chili Peppers come from? I was so excited I woke up and had to pee!

How cool can you get?
I love a man that cooks! Although Flea scares me a bit!
Now this is a fashion statement if I ever saw one.

So what have I been up to?

Modcloth Inspired Interpretation Dress
Labor Day weekend last year I broke my wrist in two places and had to have surgery. I was using a chair to climb up to clean out a cobweb in the corner above my fireplace. When I stepped back down onto the chair I missed it completely. I tried to catch myself with my left hand which, believe you me, was NOT a good idea! Needless to say, since that time I have purchased a step stool.

The surgeon placed what I considered to be a huge pin through my wrist to hold the bones together and in place for 6 weeks. Followed by 6 weeks of physical therapy. OMG how painful was all that! Even after well over a year it still hurts some everyday and occasionally I still have some swelling. Doing my job one-handed and having my hubby dress me was certainly something I had never experienced and not my cup of tea but you gotta do what you gotta do. A week beforehand I had just purchased a new car with a stick shift so I had to have someone drive me around for awhile…

To be a dog person I sure have a lot of cats!

I have always considered myself a dog person because I like dogs better than I like cats. Cats are just too standoffish for me or at least the feral ones that I always have are. Very aloof and so irritating!
I have had many dogs getting my first one at age 4. He was the runt of the litter and I named him Tootsie. He went everywhere I went growing up horseback riding, riding bikes or walking I remember he was always there. He lived until I was 22. I had multiple dogs sometimes and then I went for a few years with no pets whatsoever when I lived in the burbs. Then a few months after we moved back to the country my hubby wanted to buy me a puppy. I wanted a Bischon after watching a little one win the Westminster a few years beforehand. Her name was easy as I had been hearing the old song Some Velvet Morning by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra. It kept popping up on my iPod so Fadra is her name. She is the best little furry buddy a girl could ask for!
I don't think I ever specificall…

Concert Series: Kid Rock (Cheap Date Tour)

This post was in my drafts. I don't know why I never finished it up. This one and the one of me and the lone goose (which I still haven't recalled). I guess I got so wound up with looking for a job after I lost mine that I pushed so much stuff aside. You don't realize until you go back to something what you left hanging. I'm surprised I even got the pics uploaded. Anyway, the concert was August of 2015 and so, so much fun! I posted about First Kiss when it first came out which you can read about here.
About half way through he started playing Johnny Cash which is my favorite and I got so excited I dropped my camera. Because, of course, I want him to be my Johnny Cash! I looked and looked and finally my friend pointed it out in the middle of my cup of frozen Mike's Hard Lemonade. It even took one last pic on the way down! She pecked me on the shoulder and didn't miss a beat as she was moving to the groove. No more pics that evening. It's absolutely amazing …
