I hosted a small baby shower over the weekend

I am excited to say I have a new grandbaby expected to arrive any day now! His name is Grayson and none of us can hardly wait. His due date is January 22nd. We had a scare before Thanksgiving that he was going to be born premature but as it turned out he was breech and that kept him from popping out early. The doctor was able to turn him but it really hurt his mommy. He's all set now. Needless to say the poor girl is miserable although the count down is officially on. If you have ever been pregnant then you know where I am coming from. The last couple of weeks are the worst. I don't see how anyone can say what a great experience it is and I am mainly talking about the last few months here but in my opinion there wasn't much I enjoyed about it at all, except that feeling of life inside of you and the knowing that when it is over you will have that bundle of joy to love....which makes it all worth every minute! Although, those 9 months can seem like 19 sometimes for sure.

My older son and his wife threw a co-ed shower for them back in the early fall but I decided it would be nice to give the mommy-to-be a ladies' only shower nearer her due date. Of course, it's all about getting the little one some stuff he needs so one can't have too many showers. It's always best to keep mommy-to-be busy to make the time go by and she certainly enjoyed herself. Happy mommy and baby got everything they needed. Besides it was the least I could do for the little guy getting ready to come into my life.  I didn't expect a big crowd since they had already had one shower but it ended up being just about right. No one had to sit on the floor in my small house and it was small enough so everyone was able to mingle with everyone easily, hear everyone's stories and everyone fit into my living room. Lots of fun! Now for the details:

Food:

Sloppy Joes - 2 lg. cans of Manwich and a 5 lb. roll of hamburger. I made this the night before and put it in the crock pot. First thing next morn I placed it on low and it was perfect by 1:00 with nothing more than an occasional stir.

Bread and Butter pickle stackers - these are awesome with sloppy joes.

Chips and French Onion Dip along with a bowl of pretzels.

Veggie Tray - I purchased a pre-made one at Meijers which included a delicious dip.

I sat out bowls of candies, nuts and mints

Cake and Ice Cream- I went with the specialty bakery, Ele' Cake Co. You know it's one of those that everything looks way too pretty to eat and smells so good you never want to leave. It's the one around here that everyone raves about. The cake is the most important food item if you ask me so I went with the best. I got it half white and half chocolate. It was beautiful and delicious! When looking online I saw they will deliver nationwide so you can try them out if you want. Luckily they are only a 10 minute drive from me. I highly recommend them. Their link is http://www.elecakeco.com/. I served along with Neapolitan Ice Cream. Yum! I purchased sporks rather than spoons and forks because everything else was finger food.

Drinks:

Punch - 3 2/liter bottles of Sprite and a gallon of orange sherbet. Add ice cream right before your guests arrive. It's so easy and tasty. I also had cans of Coke, Sprite and Diet Coke along with bottled water.

Supplies:

I bought plates, cups, balloons, decorations, favors and all my miscellaneous party essentials at Party City. Huge selection of anything you want for a party you can find there. I didn't over decorate, just a few balloons and some crepe paper. However, I did spring for a tablecloth and plates, cups and napkins.

Games:

Guess how many pieces of candy in the baby bottle - I bought blue candy coated small chocolate balls and filled a small baby bottle. The guest closest to guessing the amount of candy in the bottle wins. Of course, you can't go over. Bob Barker would never allow it so neither would I.  The rest of the candy I set out for guests to enjoy and the baby bottle went home with mommy along with her 148 pieces of scrumptious chocolate.

Diaper bag item guess - You put baby items in a diaper bag and have your guests feel around and guess the items. You tell them how many and you can give them so much time each but I just started on one side and let them pass it around. I just instructed everyone not to take more than a few minutes. Once again this gives mommy something to take home. A diaper bag was what I purchased for them for their other shower but I was able to get a much cheaper day bag which worked out well. By the way, I previously bought them a Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag which they loved.

Guess the baby food - Cover at least 5 jars of baby food and place a number on each jar. Have each guest take a little taste or smell (whichever they prefer) and guess what the flavor is.

Don't say baby - I bought some small clothes pins at the party store and gave each guest one. If you hear someone say baby you get their pin. The one with the most pins at the end wins.

I also bought Baby Jumble and Baby Word Search which came packaged as a game on each side.

A good time was had by all and it was so easy to throw together!

Ok Grayson you can come on out into the big blue world any time now :o)

I still have 6 cats and tried to give a few away as shower gifts but no takers.
I don't think he's too happy about me trying to do so...giving me the evil eye and all! lol

The happy couple at their co-ed shower a few months ago. That's my baby boy with the big smile on his face. He'll be frowning when the scent of those poopy diapers comes his way soon!!
Congratulations to the happy couple!
