An awesome turkey day!

I was exceptionally thankful this year to actually have all my kids and grandkids at the same place, at the same time. Wow! Wonders really do never cease! It was great seeing them all. Ashley helped me cook, plus made all the cookies. She did a great job! Not much food was left so a good time and a full belly was enjoyed by all.

If you would like to check out some recipes and information on Thanksgiving and turkeys you can click my link here from last year. I am still finding time to be hard to find here lately but last year's post is informative. This one maybe not so much, although I did make chocolate pie from the Pioneer Woman's recipe. OMG it is awesome! You can find it here. Yum, Yum, and easy too. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

This time of year is always bittersweet for me. The weather starts turning cooler, the leaves fall and I'm another year older. I make the best of it by making a big pot of soup (my recipe here), watching lots of scary movies and reflecting on the past year. Mostly it's been a good one and I can't complain so that, in and of itself, is a huge blessing. And OMG I got to go see Paul McCartney for my birthday which was way better than just awesome!! So all is good right now. Although the recent blood moon has had me feeling a bit reclusive and a bit blue I feel I am seeing the end of its affects. Like I said I can't complain!

Here are some links for information, shopping and recipes to help you understand and enjoy the season of the witch. If you want to see the video Season of the Witch by Donovan you can view that on last year's post here. Naturally I was a witch (followed by my witchy cackle) :) Enjoy your holiday!!

Modcloth Guest of Honor Dress with Doc Martens

Dr. Martens Classic Boots

What can I say other than I love, love, love this dress. It's soft, stretchy and oh so comfy! Nice material and can be worn year round. It was one of the first dresses I wanted when I first discovered ModCloth way back when. I finally got around to getting it on sale awhile back and I am so happy with it. I love the full skirt. It reminds me of a skirt my grandmother bought me at Goodwill when I was a kid. It was black velvet on one side and red satin on the other side and you could wear it either way. It was gorgeous and I loved twirling around in it. It was pretty sweet! Of course, I had to spin around in this dress first thing. It didn't take me quite so long to get dizzy as it did as a kid so the spinning was kept to a minimum but still lots of fun.

The Guest of Honor dress is designed by Effie's Heart. Another dress by the designer is certainly in my future. I also love my Doc Martens. They were a gift from my best bud. She's the bestest ever!

I have spent most of the summer barefooted in tanks and shorts since I haven't had to dress for work but I must say I have missed wearing dresses. Don't get me wrong, I'm not really complaining. No makeup and bumming around has been just what I needed, just not from now on. Hopefully a few job offers may be coming my way. Looking for a new job has sucked but hopefully I will get an offer soon. A few interviews are now under my belt. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I need all the luck I can get. Oh, and buy the dress, it's awesome!

Life After Work

White House Black Market Dress

Well, it's been 21 weeks since I lost my job. It's been weird not having a job to go to each day and in a way I've missed it very much. In another way, not at all....although I believe that has more to do with it being my favorite time of the year rather than not wanting to work. I guess knowing I will have to go back to work soon makes me not want to but I'm not sure that I would want to be retired and continue on without a job at all. The days begin to run together for me too much after awhile. It has been many, many years since I have had a summer off so I haven't dug my heels into the job search yet but last week I began sending my resume to places I would really like to work rather than the required two for unemployment. Places I would really like to work and hopefully have a chance of getting hired. Although I did have one interview I haven't had any nibbles yet but with any luck maybe soon.  It's time to go back to work.

I have made the most of my time off mostly by working around the house, helping my mom get some things done around her place and just relaxing watching the creek behind my house roll by. A few concerts and nights out with friends and spending a bit of time with family. There are plenty of other things I could be doing but have changed my mind as time has passed. I wanted to paint the inside of my house but it doesn't look like that is going to come to be. Although I have gotten the house cleaned up pretty good and newly organized. I helped my son paint some on his house he bought earlier in the year and I just can't seem to get in the mood to do mine. Oh well, it's not like it needs it that much anyway. I would love a little color but with the price of paint and the time and effort involved it's just not happening. I also had planned to transfer all of my photos to one place and organize them. Well, that's just not happening either. Way too much data usage. Maybe someday I'll get those things done.

I have purposely stayed away from the computer as much as possible, social media, reading or watching any news, or listening to any new music. I have grown a fondness for Classic Vinyl on Sirius Radio though. It's like going back in time for sure. I figure I can get back to online stuff and reality when I am on the computer more. I must say I have enjoyed spending quiet time at home. It's been a great summer!

There's one thing I have been working on which has actually caused me to wipe the dust off my laptop, and that is reopening my Etsy store to showcase the hats I make. I learned how to make the Russian panama hat which is so pretty. The pattern was going around the web but since I can't speak Russian I couldn't read it so I figured one out on my own. They are so pretty! You can click on the logo if you want to see what I've done so far.

I hope to get back in the swing of things with life getting back to normal soon enough but for now I'm just sitting here watching the world go round and round and that's fine by me :)

A Night of The Beatles Music

As a little girl growing up in the country with no siblings I listened to music a lot to pass the time. There were two radio stations, WSAI and WING that I could get on my transistor radio and as long as the batteries held out I was good to go. Around age 7 my mom and dad got me a stereo that played records. Oh my, it was my best Christmas present ever! It was wooden, stood on legs and had a lid. A pretty piece of furniture that played music. I loved it! They tied a big red bow around it and although it stopped working years ago I still have it.

The Beatles became my favorite band and I played their music all the time and couldn't wait for a new album to come out. I bought all the magazines that featured them and anytime they were on TV I was in front of it. My dad bought me some white go go boots so I could dance along. A true Beatlemaniac! I was 13 when they broke up and I was heartbroken, Although there were no more Beatles they still put out individual stuff and Led Zeppelin came along so I survived!

When my granddaughter was born she stayed with us quite often and since I wanted her to have The Beatles experience I started playing their music for her when I would give her a bath or we would drive somewhere or whenever the mood fit. I stuck with the old stuff to begin with so she could have the same experience of listening to them in order of release. It didn't take long until she was asking to listen to them. She became a true fan and The Beatles became her favorite band, just like her memaw. She is a drummer and Ringo is her favorite Beatle. John is my favorite so we do differ on that subject but otherwise we agree...The Beatles are the greatest band of all time! We had the great pleasure of going to see Ringo last summer which you can read and see all my awesome pics here.

On Sundays I listen to Breakfast with the Beatles on our local classic rock station WTUE and I heard the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra was going to do a show featuring The Beatles albums Rubber Soul and Revolver. I knew it was a must see show for us. It was such a fun evening! The show was at The Schuster Center which is absolutely gorgeous! Photos are not allowed but I was able to capture a couple of the venue before the show started.

We dropped the top on the car for the ride home, blasted the cd I made and sang along. When we got home we popped in The Concert for George. Although my little Beatle buddy went to sleep before it went off we both had the best time :)

Concert Series: Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band (I wore #thedress, which is blue on black)

I had the pleasure of attending a concert to see my favorite band a few weeks ago with my best friend. We've had so much fun listening to them over the years that when I saw they were coming to town around her birthday I knew where we would be. 6th row center, baby, we were there! They played at a new concert venue called the Rose Music Center which was so nice. They rocked the house!

When the whole #thedress controversy hit the internet I found it to be very interesting. I mean it made me think how many other things do we see as different everyday. Most of the people I knew saw it as white and gold but I always saw it as blue and black. I had to have it. I don't know why, I just did so I ordered it right away although I had no idea where to wear it. When Kenny Wayne posted that the dress was obviously blue on black from his song, I knew then I would be wearing it to see him. It's actually a beautifully made dress and so comfortable. I love it and the next time someone says a word about the white and gold dress, well, I have the proof the dress is definitely blue on black, just ask Kenny Wayne!

Some gals recognized #thedress during a trip to the bathroom :o)
