Awesome pork and sauerkraut recipe for good luck in the new year

Ingredients :
2-3 lbs. lean boneless pork ribs
6 garlic cloves
Small amount of olive oil
1 large jar of sauerkraut or similar size bag
1 large red apple
1 smal to medium red onion
2 shallots
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 cup chicken broth
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon corse black pepper

Preheat oven to 325. On stovetop pour enough olive oil in Dutch oven to cover bottom well. Fry garlic until tender and set aside. Salt and pepper both sides of pork and brown well, then bake uncovered in oven for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, drain sauerkraut and place in mixing bowl. Add apple cubes, chopped onion, chopped shallots and chopped garlic gloves. Add apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Mix ingredients

After pork has cooked cover with mixed ingredients above. Add chicken broth, cover with lid and bake 3 more hours. I served with macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. Applesauce would go well and/or a nice dinner salad.

All I can say is yum, yum, yum! Perfect for the new year. We can always use all the luck we can get. Enjoy!

Pictures for this post were taken with my new iPhone, uploaded to the blogger app and text added on my iPad. All by floating on the cloud. Easy peasy. I love learning new things and perfecting a great recipe. It's been a great way to start the new year. I say cool beans! Although I guess I should be saying cool pork and sauerkraut :o)  Happy new year!

My Christmas Wishlist Fulfilled....and Fadra's too!

What a nice time I had continuing my laid back Christmas through my vacation. I cleaned house first off but then no plans other than dinner at mom's on Christmas Eve and I cooked breakfast on Christmas morning for my family. Other than that I relaxed, crocheted, edited some photos and watched tv mostly. Doing whatever my heart desired at the time was quite nice I must say. Christmas evening we watched the greatest movie ever set at Christmastime, Batman Returns, and I started watching the Mad Men marathon they are running on Sunday mornings until the final season. Not being much of a drama fan I am finding it surprisingly good. Sounds odd coming from me without any mention of witches, vampires, werewolves and the like!

I was thrilled to receive the Apple products I hoped for, an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air. Pretty awesome I must say! I spent some time downloading some apps and setting them up which was extremely easy. A couple of games, some photo apps, a little social networking and a book, The Mayfair Witches Trilogy by Anne Rice which I have been wanting to read again. I even found some apps which I could use to view some of the items I have downloaded through Google Play on my old Nexus 7, sweet! Everything is all nestled up in the iCloud now so I can view on my phone and my tablet which are now synced together. Even all my music from iTunes is on both devices and I didn't have to do a thing. Stuff is just there. As I said, pretty awesome! I love this cloud thing.

I was able to get everyone what they wanted this year. Electronics for everyone. I got what I wanted plus much more and found Fadra's favorite toy, Lambchop, in a huge size. She loves it so much! All was good. I must say a good time was had by all. I feel so very blessed and look forward to a brand new year. I may have to make this laid back thing a tradition. However afterwards I am thinking my New Year's resolution should be to not be so laid back :o) Time to stop thinking and talking and start doing. But first things first, just what is that Don Draper up to now?

Wearing boots previously owned by Sheryl Crow...how cool is that?

I am not one who would consider themselves all that lucky. Of course, I know I am for all that I have, my health, family, wonderful friends and all that other great stuff but on a day to day basis, like playing the lottery or buying a raffle ticket, I rarely win a thing. Who would have ever thought I'd be lucky enough to win a pair of boots pre-owned by my favorite singer, Sheryl Crow? Surely not me! She sings the songs of my life and I love her so much but these things always go way above my grasp since I am a poor working girl. Although as I watched the auction it appeared I might just be able to snatch a pair of her boots within reason. Wow, I couldn't believe my eyes!  The girl certainly has some good taste so I wanted them all and I was watching all the boots that came close to my size. I mean I had to be able to wear them or why bother. Her feet are a bit bigger than my own. One of about 20 items would be mine, if possible. I've been shopping on eBay for years and sell crochet items there so I knew I had to be ruthless and bid at the very last minute and place my top bid. Talk about a nervous wreck that morning. I had told myself not to be disappointed because it was unlikely I would even be in the running come the last minute but I watched with anticipation all morning as the bid never went any higher than the $150 bid I saw each time I looked at this pair. When it came down to the last minute I put in my bid of $200 as top bid and to my surprise it only went up to $153 with myself as the winning bidder. Yippeee! Add an extra $18 for shipping and for under $200 I was the proud owner of a pair of Sheryl's boots. I couldn't have been happier! When they arrived I put them on and wore them around the house all evening. I don't know if a person can actually feel cooler than they are but that's how I felt. And kind of funky! lol I loaded my cd player with some of her older cd's including "Home For Christmas" so I was all set for the season. The flashback jam session was on. I've had the best time and I finally wore my boots over the holiday. Love, love, love!

I had the pleasure of making a new friend on Facebook after posting on Sheryl's page about winning the boots. She herself had won a pair and was feeling as cool and funky as I was. I stated I was planning to wear them drinking on a Tuesday with a guy named William but I bet his name will be Bill, or Billy, or Mack or Buddy and she stated she had been saying the same thing (lyrics from Sheryl's first hit song "All I Wanna Do"). As it turns out she only lives two hours from me and we plan to get our boots together come spring. With any luck Sheryl may do a tour and we could meet there. Now that would be cool and funky!

The auction is over but if you would like to make a donation to Feeding America you can do so here.

“It is so important for everyone across the country to dare to be conscious and aware of the struggles of those around them—even if those struggles are not the same as their own. Feeding America does just that, and it’s a great privilege for me to unite with them in their cause.” ~ Sheryl Crow

My Christmas Wishlist

Here it is again already, Christmastime. How did that happen so soon? Time does fly by. This time last year I had been listening to 8 hours of Christmas music a day at work and sick to death of it. How do retail people do it every year? Since then I changed radio stations. Not due to the change over to Christmas music but because I could finally pick up the public radio station WNKU. Glad Santa brought them some new antennas! I became a member last week and there should be two cd's heading my way as a thank you gift. I am anxiously awaiting those. Anyway back to last year, I was also way too busy at work and otherwise to suit me with no vacation time in sight. This year I am laid back listening to awesome music while my bosses are both out of the office. I did all my shopping online and have all next week off work. Not a stressful bone in my body at this moment. Now that's what I would call a Christmas bonus! Although there has been some news in the family, I personally have not done a lot to speak of this year. Some reflecting, looking back and forward and mostly dreaming of the future. I feel this year has been like a step-over year. Like it has went by with me looking in at myself from afar without being attached. It's weird but that's the only way to explain it. I hope to join up with myself this year and get back to doing more. Wish me luck on that one!

I have been such a good girl this year, I am hopeful that Santa is going to bring me an iPhone 6 and an iPad. I am ready to jump on the iCloud. I am anticipating that I will enjoy sharing my music, photos and books on my different devices. I hope I can figure it out but apparently all you have to do is sign in with your Apple ID and you are all set without having to do a thing but opt in. I will have to update you on my adventure on the cloud once I am floating :o)

Before closing I want to wish you all the love and happiness you can make and find this holiday season. I hope you get everything your heart desires. Merry Christmas!

Season of the Witch

This time of year everywhere you look there are ghouls, ghosts and, of course, witches galore. A time when the dead can converse with the living and all things seem magical or scary or both. The wind starts to whip and you swear you heard someone speak to you even though there is no one around. The days are shorter and darkness descends. I find things move from where I know they are to someplace they should never be. It takes me the rest of the winter or longer to ever find them again. I always find them though in some odd spot. I binge on scary movies and popcorn and dread the cold.

I don't normally dress up for Halloween other than the occasional witch or some cat ears. If nothing else I at least try to wear orange. This year as I was looking for cat food there out of the blue laid the pretty witch's hat I'm wearing in these pictures. I think it wanted me to buy it so who was I to argue.

I have always had an interest in witchcraft, the Wicca religion and there's nothing better than a scary movie with a nasty witch in it. You never know whether they are good or bad and there's always that mysterious aura around them. Even the bad, ugly, ones are very charismatic. In real life witchery has not always been so glorified. You can read about witchcraft here on Wikipedia and about Wicca here.

One thing that comes up a lot when reading about ancient witchcraft is a lot of women were accused of being witches just because they had red hair. If you happen by and smell the cauldron bubbling, see the frogs hopping and hear me cackling think nothing of it. We'll have a glass of brew and a shiny red apple....my pretty :o)

Back to work

I was back to work today in full swing and not wearing my black skirt. As bad as I just wanted to grab it and throw it on this morning I didn't. Yay for me. I hate coming back after a few days off. It seems everybody, and their brother too, want to talk to me. It's ok though, I am trying to stay busy to keep from thinking about how much it is going to cost to get my car fixed. Way, way too much! I'd rather it break down now than this winter in the middle of a snowstorm I guess. I was just extremely bummed because it died on my birthday. With any luck I'll be cruising this time tomorrow with no worries. I'm letting them fix everything. Main thing was the fuel pump went out. Not cheap.

I wanted to share some pictures I got of the moon last night and thought what the heck, how about a picture of my cute dress while I'm at it. I wasn't able to see the moon when it was supposed to turn red but it sure was bright. No blood moon for me but very pretty too look at for sure. I was kind of psyched for the American Horror Story premiere last night and wanted to waste a few minutes beforehand so I could skip through the commercials so I went out and photographed the moon. I love to do that sometimes but where I live I can't always see it. Down in a valley where the tall trees grow. To be honest though, I think I was more impressed with the moon than the show. It might not be my cup of tea this year. Another bummer....but I did get a great deal on the dress and a beautiful show put on by nature last night so I can't complain. Ok, I know...too late!
