Orange for Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! The weather is rather warm here today but it's rainy and may storm tonight for trick or treat. I hope not for the sake of the kiddies but it isn't looking good. When I lived in the cul-de-sac we used to get a lot of trick or treaters but now that I'm out in the country I don't get any. I kind of miss it! I love seeing all the crazy costumes.

I don't normally dress up but rather wear something in Halloween colors. Today I am wearing the only piece of orange clothing that I currently own. Being a redhead orange is definitely not my color but I found this dress on eBay for $5.00 last year and since everyone should have something orange for Halloween, or for a pop of color, I snatched it up. I wore it for the holiday last year paired with brown which you can see here. You can also find funny tips for a safe Halloween and a Rob Zombie video. All you ghouls and goblins be safe today whatever you do whether it be tricking or treating :o) I think a good scary movie is on my agenda tonight.

Music Monday - Stevie Nicks

Needless to say I am a huge Stevie Nicks fan! Having graduated in 1976, Fleetwood Mac music was a big part of my teenage years and I still listen to them quite often. I made a greatest hits of my own a few years ago which I keep in one of the slots on my home cd player all the time. I have seen Fleetwood Mac numerous times and was able to see the band when all the original members reunited in 1997 around the time of my 40th birthday. That was some big fun! I went with some girlfriends. We dressed up and did our best Stevie hairdos and had a ball. I also saw her as a solo artist a few years ago. Sheryl Crow was a backup singer which made it a unique concert. I thought Sheryl would play first and then Stevie but as it turned out Sheryl didn't play a set by herself at all but they did do a couple of her songs. All I can say is that was an awesome show! My bff and I got lost leaving the venue and had to walk around a pond to get to the parking lot which took forever. It made a long night even longer but it also gave us lots of extra laughs and a good story to boot. Earlier some guy ran up and grabbed her beer that was sitting on the counter while she was paying for it. He was like the wind! lol The sweet fellow behind the counter gave her another without charge. I wish I had a picture of the shock on all our faces. It was one of those, well, I don't believe that one, moments.

I have all of Stevie's solo albums and I love them all so much I could never pick a favorite. You can read all about her here. To my delight my favorite show, American Horror Story, is currently using some of her music.  If you haven't been watching it's all about witches this year. An isolated witch named Misty Day (Lily Rabe) feels Stevie is her only friend. She listens to her music all the time. I think I was there once in my lifetime so I can identify. When I got in the car this morning Stevie's song Trouble in Shangri-La came on my iPod and I played it over and over all the way to work. I could listen to her day in and day out and never get tired of her beautiful voice. It has been said for many years that Stevie dabbles in a little witchcraft herself but she says it's her look that gives her the reputation, not the practice of witchcraft. I've never been convinced :o)

Black and White

Last weekend I decided it was time to do the dreaded chore of trying on everything in my closet. Last year we turned an extra room we had into a big closet. It's still mainly just hanging rods on a wall but it works and I love it! There are still things I need to do to complete my idea but for now it works for what it is. You can see it here. I moved all my clothes but I didn't try a thing on and actually I can't remember the last time I did. I did get rid of some stuff but kept things that I was unsure about. I've found that most of those unsure items have just been hanging in there so I decided it was time to try on everything and see why. My goal is to be able to pull anything out of my closet and know it will fit me. It may look good on the hanger but if it doesn't look great on me then there's no reason to keep it. I'm making a bit of headway on this :o) It's been a great idea so far I must say. It is making me think about my clothes rather than just looking at them hanging there.

This dress was one of those unsure items. I had always thought of it as a summer dress but it has a nice lining which makes it not so summery sometimes so I haven't worn it much. Plus it had a grey swag across the front with a bow. I think I thought it was a belt when I bought it. This past weekend I caught a glimpse of Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama. She was wearing a white skirt, black sweater and knee high black boots and it hit me, why not cut off that grey swag and make my white dress a cold weather dress and pair it with black. This is what I came up with! This was one item I was pleasantly pleased to be able to save. Love it, now!

My Pantone fall color wishlist

This time each year I like to look and see what the Pantone colors for the season are. When you go shopping these colors should be abundant whether it be for your clothing or your home decorating. This year they are Turbulence (grey), Acai (purple), Deep Lichen Green, Mykonos Blue, Vivacious (pink), Emerald (green), Linden Green, Carafe (brown), Koi (orange), and Samba (red). I'm not crazy about this year's colors but you can read all about the different colors and how to mix and match here.  I love all these styles but I am hoping to get my hands on the grey dress for sure and I may have to rearrange my budget for those red boots :o)

My flats had a blowout

I've been wearing the same little pair of black flats for the last two summers. To my dismay I have totally worn them out. After wearing them out on a rainy day a couple of weeks ago I realized that they have gotten holes in them around the toe. Today is my last day to wear them because they are now in full blowout toe mode. I was going to take a picture but I'm a bit embarressed to show how badly they look and acknowledge they are still on my feet! lol They are hitting the garbage can today.

I wanted a new pair for my birthday and I had decided upon a pair of Bass penny loafers but after reading that they ran narrow I decided I had better try a pair on because I have a wide foot. I had planned to hit the outlet mall with my mom but we didn't make it past dinner at Olive Garden. Instead she got me a pair of boots which I'll be styling soon! I'm still eyeballing these styles but as soon as I can get to the mall the penny loafers are mine :o)

I wanted these....

but I got these. Love 'em!

Warm up leftover pizza on your stovetop

I absolutely love pizza! In the 80's I worked at a small delivery-only pizza joint and I learned to eat whatever came on a pizza but deluxe is my favorite. We usually get a larger size than we can eat so we can have leftovers for lunch on another day and the other night was no exception. I'm sure you do the same. I saw a tip on the internet awhile back (who knows where) about warming leftover pizza up on the stovetop to get it crisp again. Since I love crispy I thought I would give it a try the next time I had some pizza to warm up. I don't care for pizza warmed up in the microwave and so I use the oven to warm but even if you do warm it up in the oven to get it crispy the top gets to dark. Most times I just eat it cold. When I saw that tip about warming up on the stovetop I thought I would try it out the first chance I got and last night was my opportunity. I got out my Rachel Ray nonstick skillet and decided to give it a try. I'll never warm pizza in the oven again! So crispy and good, just like it came fresh out of the pizza oven!

Here's what I did:

If you are like me and like a lot of toppings then your pizza is going to be thick so you will need to warm it up slowly to begin with so that the top of the pizza gets warm without burning the bottom so I started by warming up my skillet on medium heat and once it was hot I lowered the heat and just let the pizza cook for about 10 minutes. Putting a lid on the skillet might speed up this process but I didn't try that this go round. When I thought the pizza was warm throughout I turned up the heat to further brown the bottom. This took just a few minutes. In about 15 minutes I had pizza that was just as good and crispy as it was the night before.

TV - American Horror Story - Coven

What can I say, I love a good scary story! In my opinion American Horror Story is one of the best. I am really excited about the new season. It's all about witches this time around and what could be funner! Ever since I was a little girl and saw Glenda ask Dorothy if she was a good witch or a bad witch in the Wizard of Oz, or watched that crazy witch that always wanted to cook Bugs Bunny run after him, I have always loved stories about witches. Most are seen to be bad witches, horrible, wart riddled creatures hovering over cauldrons of potions that could do horrible things to you if you were the person she was conjuring against. You certainly do not want to be that person! I mean, just ask Dorothy or Bugs!

This year stars: Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, Denis O'Hare, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Alexandra Breckenridge, Jamie Brewer, Grey Damon, Alexander Dreymon, Christine Ebersole, Josh Hamilton, Danny Huston, Leslie Jordan, Patti LuPone, Kō Shibasaki, Gabourey Sidibe, Mare Winningham.  You can read more about it here.

American Horror Story has been my favorite show the last couple of years and I am really looking forward to this season. It's the one show that even though it may be recording on the dvr I still have to watch it at the time it comes on. I guess it would be considered a mini-series since each year it is a different story with different characters although the show has a lot of the same actors. So if you have not watched previous seasons it doesn't matter because it's a whole new story. Pretty cool I think!

This year the story is set in New Orleans and begins October 9 on the FX network. Get out your black hat, your potion book, and practice your best witch laugh, the cauldrons are ready to boil!
